Boxsite Archival Materials Information

All materials available on Boxsite are acid-free and archival. This means that you know the products you make with us are suitable for long term storage. The various materials we have available are listed below.

Acid Free Polyester

Professionals insist on polyester for storing art and other documents due to the glass-clear, inert protection it provides, knowing it will not crack or yellow with age like other plastic pockets.

  • 50 or 75 micron thicknesses
  • Non-yellowing and inert, glass-clear museum standard polyester
    Incredibly strong, providing long-term protection whilst allowing handling

 

Acid Free Foam - Plastazote

Acid-free Plastazote foam LD45 is used for many applications such as drawer or box lining for various specimens, coins/medals, glass photographic negatives, book rests, display supports, shipping works of art and protecting in archival storage.

Being inert and acid free, Plastazote is also ideal for packing archival boxes to fit the object such as rare books and other valuable items that are subject to potential damage.

Available in; 6mm, 12mm and 28mm thicknesses, black or white colours.

Acid-free white heavyweight paper

Archival and acid-free paper ideal for lightweight mounting, interleaving, writing, artwork, making folders or envelopes. 200 gsm weight stock. Textured surface for a luxurious look.

  • Acid free for long term storage of papers and more
  • PAT passed safe for long-term storage of photographic materials
  • Lignin Free, 100% bleach cellulose
  • White 200gsm
  • Alkaline buffer > 3% natural calcium carbonate to protect from acid migration
  • Free of optical brightening agents
  • ISO9706 International Standard for long life papers and board

Acid Free White Archival Card/Board

Archival and acid-free buffered board, high quality single-ply material ideal for lightweight mounting and backing boards, making folders, envelopes and lightweight boxes. 0.5mm thick. Suitable for long term storage and display applications.

  • Ideal for making a wide range of enclosures, including boxes, folders, 4-flap envelopes, backing boards and more
  • Natural white, solid colour - 0.5mm thick
  • Free of optical brightening agents
  • Passed the Photographic Activity Test for safe storage of photographic materials
  • 100% bleached cellulose, free of wood fibres, lignin-free
  • pH 7.5 - 10.0 = acid-free (in accordance with ISO 6588-1:2012)
  • Alkaline buffer for protection from acid > 3% natural calcium carbonate (GCC)

 

Acid Free Manilla Card

Acid-free archival quality card ideal for making folders, wraps and envelopes. Can also be used as backing or interleaving card.

  • Acid-free ideal for long term storage of papers and more
  • Buffered (3% calcium carbonate) for protection from migrant acidity which could attack your documents
  • Heavyweight 260gsm card with moderate porosity allowing contents to breath
  • ISO9706 international standard for long life papers and board
  • Colours will not bleed into contents
  • Soil resistant

 

Acid Free Light Grey/ White Corrugated Board

Our Archival light grey/ white corrugated board is available in 1.6mm and 3mm thicknesses and perfect for long term storage. It is PAT passed for safe storage of photographic materials. The white flute means any cut edges still look great, along with the white interior and light grey exterior. Ideal for making bespoke archival storage boxes. A detailed specification is below:

Archival Corrugated Board Specification:

  • 100% bleached cellulose
  • No recycled fibresArchival Board 3mm Crease

  • Kappa level 1 – 2 = lignin-free
  • pH 7.5 - 10.0 = acid-free (in accordance with ISO 6588-1:2012)
  • Alkaline buffer > 3 % natural calcium carbonate (GCC)
  • Sizing: neutral/synthetic (without alum additive)
  • Without optical brightening agents
  • Light-fastness 5 – 6 (good – very good) in accordance with the wool scale (ISO 105- B02)
  • Special surface strengthening (dirt-resistant and erasable)
  • No bleeding in accordance with DIN ISO 16245:2012
  • Photographic Activity Test (PAT) passed in accordance with ISO 18916:2007
  • Glue used for lamination free of solvents and plasticisers (softening agents)
  • pH approx. 7.0

Acid Free Blue/Grey Corrugated board

Acid free and archival quality 1.7mm thick 680 gsm corrugated board. Slightly stronger and heavier duty than our 1.6mm board due to the stronger/heavier outer material. Blue/Grey dirt-resistant outer with white buffered inner for protection from acid. White core/fluting for premium attractive look at cut edges.

  • Light-fastness 7-8 (very good) in accordance with the wool scale (ISO 105- B02)
  • Special surface strengthening (dirt-resistant and wipeable)
  • No bleeding in accordance with DIN ISO 16245:2012
